Online Panel Debate: Between Truth and Trust

Wednesday, 31 March 2021, 18.00-19.30 (GMT+1) Livestreamed via YouTube

In the first online panel debate of the series, we will explore the topic of disinformation also known as ‘fake news’. Our three expert guest speakers will delve into the different aspects of disinformation. In today’s world, it is important to be able to discern where information comes from. Are we being informed, misinformed or even manipulated? The lines are sometimes blurred, so it is useful to have an insight into how different media sources might be biased and how we are potentially influenced by this. Featuring guest speakers:

  • Carl Miller, Research Director of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Media (CASM), Demos;

  • Clara Jiménez Cruz, Co-founder of Maldita.es, a Spanish non-profit news organisation focused on stopping disinformation through fact-checking and data journalism, Maldita.es;

  • Marianna Spring, Specialist reporter covering disinformation and social media, BBC;

  • Guido Gerrichhauzen, Lead educator of the Fake (F)or Real temporary exhibition, House of European History.

Moderator:

Paul Salmons, Curator and educator specialising in difficult histories, Paul Salmons Associates.
